Phillip Phillips must have surgery

“American Idol” finalist Phillip Phillips has put off surgery as long as he possibly could — but his doctors say it’s imperative he seek medical treatment as soon as his run on the show is over.
According to a report by TMZ, the Georgia native’s kidney problems have gotten worse since March, when he was rushed to the hospital for severe abdominal pain. Though experts have advised he seek help immediately, Phillips has chosen to hold off until the Season 11 winner is chosen on Monday.

Phillips’ kidney issues have reportedly affected his ability to sing, and according to the report, are also why he was often absent from pre-recorded segments filmed with the rest of the cast.

The 21-year-old vocalist has undergone five kidney stone removal procedures since October of last year and was hospitalized in January for issues relating to his condition.

He is slated to square off against Jessica Sanchez during the program’s Monday night finale.

‘American Idol’ Top Two: Did Joshua Ledet Deserve To Be Eliminated?

‘He was definitely the best,’ one fan says of the soulful third-place finisher.

It happens every year. By the time you drill down to the top three on“American Idol,” tears are shed and teeth are gnashed when host Ryan Seacrest announces the third-place finisher.

After coming so far, climbing so high and landing within one episode of the show’s finale, whatever beloved singer makes it to the precipice of potential fame is sent to the sidelines to watch the final showdown and his/her fans are left dejected.

‘Idol’ Favorite Joshua Ledet Is Eliminated

That’s the general mood of Joshua Ledet’s followers after the soul-stirring 20-year-old Westlake, Louisiana throwback singer was sent packing on Thursday night’s elimination show , paving the way for pocket diva Jessica Sanchez and (be)low key pawn shop worker Phillip Phillips to battle it out next week.

“They sabotaged Joshua and Jessica,” raged reader Rienell John Llevado in a comment on an MTV News story in which Ledet called his elimination  a “relief.”

“Jessica got lucky she has the support she needed to go on. They will do the same thing again this Tuesday. They are giving their golden boy the best to bring him on top. After all, isn’t ‘American Idol’ loves white guys with guitar only? Don’t worry Josh, you’re right when you said you could still have a successful career even if you don’t win ‘Idol.’”

Another reader, Keish, claimed that the voting was rigged because after always getting a message that their vote was counted before, there was no such message Thursday night. “I voted so many times & still got nothing! Josh you are the winner!!!”

Khan lamented that Ledet — who was touted by the judges as one of thebest singers  to ever grace the “Idol” stage — should not have been eliminated, because, “someone with that kind of voice should never be voted off a singing competition.” A number agreed and added that Joshua is probably better in the long run because his singing style has a timeless quality and, besides, the recent track record  of WGWG (white guys with guitars) has been pretty dismal anyway.

“American did not vote based on the talent,” opined Lamran2010. “How come Joshua was voted off … it is not fair.” Interestingly, given the shrieks of joy Phillips often elicits on the show, a number of the comments derided his meat-and-potatoes singing style and predicted that voters would turn out in force for Sanchez next week. “Wow , how can America get it so hopelessly wrong year after year” wondered Muzz W. “Go Jessica, Phil Phillips should have gone weeks ago.” Then again, Koo was not having it, bidding “good riddents [sic] Joshua” and proclaiming the singer a “drama mama.”

Amid the sometimes nasty back-and-forth, writer Barry made a plea for peace, saying, “All three have sooo much talent!!! America has voted and unfortunately Joshua goes home. But don’t take anything away from Jessica and Phil now!! The finale is all about the songs they sing and how they sing them. It’s also about stage presence!!” His pick: Sanchez.

As many eagle-eyed “Idol” watchers are aware, it’s not always the winners who end up winning, which is why LaNell was just fine with Ledet going home early. “Joshua became a winner the moment he stepped on the stage,” she wrote. “He got the exposure he needed to get his career started … he will go far because of his talent,” adding that she figured a younger generation might not totally get his “good ole Motown sound.”

American Idol: Jessica Sanchez Takes on Mariah Carey, Aerosmith & Michael Jackson

Let the “American Idol” top three battle begin!

It was a battlefield on the “American Idol” stage Wednesday night as Jessica Sanchez and her two competitors, Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips, went all out singing not one, not two, but three challenging songs in the hopes of showing they should be the country’s next “Idol.”

Sanchez, 16, took on the songs of three icons: Mariah Carey, Aerosmith and Michael Jackson.

The judges, superstar singers Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and music producer Randy Jackson loved the Filipino/Mexican’s performances, despite Jackson’s criticism of Sanchez’s rendition of “I’ll Be There.”

“That was absolutely beautiful,” said Jackson when Sanchez finished performing Carey’s “My All.”

“Perfectly the right song for you,” he added. “I say this all the time because I work with Mariah.”

“With a Mariah song we tell people never to do it because it’s like a lesson in the most difficult things to ever sing,” Jackson said. “But, you know what, I think it’s one of the best times a Mariah song has ever been performed on TV.”

Lopez gave the California native props for singing the popular tune in her “own way.”

“Hard song,” said Lopez. “It’s not about copying someone, it’s about doing it in your own way.”

“We wanted to show people that,” Lopez continued. “You could get through something like this and you did.”

For Tyler, Sanchez is the next “American Idol.”

“Jessica, when you sing you make people hang on your every note,” Tyler said. “The way you sing… I hope you get used to encores. In another crazy way, I think you will be the last one standing here.”

Sanchez later surprised Tyler by singing one of his band’s songs “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”

After giving her a standing ovation, Tyler praised Sanchez for having the guts to sing one of Aerosmith’s classic tracks.

“You just took a great song and made it greater. Thank you,” said the rock star.

Lopez was exultant over Tyler’s comments on Sanchez’s performance.

“You don’t know what a big deal that is,” said Lopez smiling. “When people come up and sing his songs…I don’t think he’s ever said one good thing!”

“That was amazing! You did really great. That note at the end… wow. [It] sent everyone into the heavens.”

All was going splendid for Sanchez — that is, until her third performance of The Jackson Five’s “I’ll Be There,” when Randy Jackson harshly criticized Sanchez.

“Here’s the thing, once again we are at the end here,” said Jackson. “You are on stage with all these other dynamic singers — there was never a moment moment. It was OK. It wasn’t like ‘Oh my God.’”

Tyler thought otherwise.

“Perfect song, perfect voice,” Tyler said. “You nailed it. Delicious.”

JLO thought it was “a good choice.”

“Perfect tone in your voice,” said Lopez. “You almost sounded like Michael coming out of the back there.”

“You killed it so hard at the end,” she added. “It was crazy. Good job, baby.”
